Dongara, Western Australia
The perfect beach holiday destination
Our chalets are located 12kms north of Dongara, Western Australia. Dongara is 351 kilometres north-northwest of Perth, on the Brand Highway. The town is located at the mouth of the Irwin River and is known as the 'Rock lobster capital of Australia'. The area is known for its pristine beaches - perfect for swimming, surfing, and other water sports.
Wild Flowers
It is a popular wildflower destination with the flower season occurring between August and October (timing can vary slightly each year depending on rainfall). Venture out on your own or join a local wild flower tour. New Leaf Connect offers local wildflower full and half day tours.
Walking and Hiking
There are walking trails you can explore with scenic coastal and river views. From the chalets, you can also walk south along the beach to 7mile Beach or north to 9mile Beach. You are also welcome to go for a walk around Getaway but please stick to the roads for your safety. Local fauna of kangaroos, birds, lizards and echidnas are residential to this area.
Fishing
There is fantastic fishing both off the beach and off shore with local species including Whiting, Tailor, Mulloway, Skippy and Dhufish. The area is also known for its rock lobster industry.
The beach is suitable for swimming and as mentioned above is great for on-shore fishing and coastal walks to nearby beaches. Please note that no vehicles or motorbikes are allowed on the beach as there are no tracks and you may find yourself phoning a friend. Please also do not enter other people’s property.
Other Activities
The Dongara Activity Park has miniature golf and archery and the Dongara Golf Club has a well-regarded golf course.
